Stephan Woodward
This July NCDGA golfers set out to tackle another one of America's toughest golf courses, The Pit Golf Links which is located near by Pinehurst, NC. The Pit Golf Links is a perfect venue for some tough golf. It's very much like Tobacco Road Golf course. It can be very imitating and leaves very little margin for error. The "Pit" was carved out of a 130 year old sand quarry. Every hole present a different challenge. Of the seventeen golfers, only four managed to break 90. So our hats go off to Stephan Woodward who muscled his way to a gross score of 77. Close behind was Robert Ritch, who carded a 83.
Would like to mention here, too that Stephan Woodward's older brother, Jasper at age of 51  passed away that week. Stephan had just flown in from Houston, TX where his brother lived, the day before the tourney and then had to fly down to Florida for the funeral to have his brother buried by their father. Stephan said that on16th hole, par three, he birdied that  hole for his brother, Jasper. Our consolation goes out to Stephan and his family.
